French Broad River Info

French Broad River Facts

  • The French Broad River is the 3rd oldest river in the world! Only the Nile River & the New River (also in North Carolina) are older.
  • The river is older than the Appalachain Mountains, which it flows through.
  • The French Broad River was known as the Agiqua, or 'Long Man' by the Cherokee Indians.
  • Five seperate forks form the French Broad; North Fork, West Fork, South Fork, Middle Fork, and East Fork. The forks all converge together right before the river enters Rosman, North Carolina. Between Rosman and Asheville, the river is very flat and slow moving.
