It's that time of year again folks. The Gauley River in West Virginia has long been regarded as one of the country's baddest ass whitewater trips. The Upper Gauley is home to some of the fiercest whitewater rafting anywhere around and we'll be on it next week!
Our Mississippi River Kayak trip is back on for 2007. After several delays and two summers, this trip is now scheduled for late May 2007. The budget is set, the funds are there, and the kayak is the only thing left to build. My plan is to leave sometime around the end of May, and spend 60-80 days on the river. I predict there will still be quite a large amount of cleanup in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina and along the mouth of the Mississippi River Delta. It might be a sight to see. Wanna go along?

This season Absolute Adventures-Shark Diver (www.sharkdiver.com)
introduced 144 excited divers to the wild world of white sharks during our
8-week shark season. What we encountered there on our first expedition was
nothing short of spectacular and began with an extraordinary introduction
to one very wild great white that we quickly named “Shredder”.

2004 is a busy year for kayaking & camping! We've got a long list of rivers, lakes, & other destinations to paddle! Whitewater, touring, canoe, who knows, maybe even a blow up pink sofa adventure down some good waterfalls. In addition to the Mississippi & French Broad River adventure trips, we've got a bunch of shorter river stretches lined up, including the Davidson, Toe, Pigeon, Nantahala, Nolichucky, Tuckasegee, Green, and more!
This year, we will try to hike every trail & visit every attraction along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'll do my best to have a complete write up and recommendation for everything, but we can sure use a helping hand! If you have hiked any of the Parkway's trails, please let me know if you'd be interested in filling out a trail report to share with everyone :) The trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway are perfect for those not looking for some extreme bungee jumping or para gliding adventure. We started our efforts to kayak every mile of the French Broad River last weekend. The French Broad River, for those who don't know, is the 3rd oldest river in the world! Of course, I can't find any info on how old exactly that is, but sounds pretty old. This is a very calm river, and atleast the entire river pre-Asheville is easily canoed or kayaked by paddlers of any skill level. Click here for more info on our French Broad River adventure! >>
On November 10, 2003 The Congaree Swamp became our nations newest national park, being upgraded from its former national monument status. This new park, located in central South Carolina, protects 22,000 acres of the largest contiguous tract of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the United States. We have a fun kayaking adventure planned for Congaree Swamp this month! We plan to spend a full weekend in Congaree, kayaking as many of the rivers including the Congaree River. We will also be camping in the backcountry! If anyone is interested, please email me, Don't forget the bug spray!
Just want to give a special thanks to John & Joe with the Astronomy Club of Asheville for putting up with me into the wee hours of the morning! They showed me Jupiter & the moons, the rings of Saturn, Whirlpool Galaxy, M42 Nebula, Crab Nebula, a bunch of clusters, globular clusters, and so much more! For anyone that has never given the night sky much thought... grab a pair of binoculars, you can see alot! It's a totally different ballgame even with a set of binocs! Point it toward Jupiter and you can make out one or two of Jupiter's Moons! Point it toward the belt of Orion, and BOOM the fuzzy area is the Nubula M42! I strongly urge everyone to join your local astronomy club if you've never seen these types of things in real life! Pictures of the planets on the web don't do any justice whatsoever. You thought Grand Canyon took your breath away? Wait till you see this...
Florida Keys
via Mississippi River Our trip down the Mississippi has been postponed a bit, but with the extra time we will make it extra special :) We plan to construct a kayak for the trip.
