Current Photography Equipment & Reviews

Here's a list of all the equipment we've used & travelled with. Links will open in a new window. I'm hoping to update my camera equipment to include Canon's EOS 10D digital camera body, and at least a 2 or 4gb card.

Canon System

  • Canon EOS 1n 35mm film body
  • Canon Rebel G2 film body - This sucker is super lightweight and very easy to use! When you don't want or need to lug around heavy equipment, the G2 is an affordable, ultralight savior.
  • Canon 24-85 USM zoom
  • Canon 70-200 L f4 zoom (with Canon tripod collar)
  • Canon 35-80 lens
  • Acratech Ultimate Ballhead, camera & lens plates
  • SLIK 713 Carbon Fiber Tripod (very lightweight with the Acratech head!!!)
  • Lowepro Trekker (beaten to death, still alive!)
  • Tiffen Polarizers for all lenses (cheap $$ but good results)

Minolta System

  • Minolta Maxxum 5 film body - This lightweight camera takes awesome pics! The focus is extremely fast and very very quiet compared to all the other bodies I have used. So far, the only feature that I've missed on this body is mirror lockup for taking landscapes... but other than that... Definitely recommended!
  • Minolta 28-80 D lens
  • Minolta 75-300 D lens
  • Bogen 3001 Tripod - This tripod has served me very well, and taken tons of pictures, but its time is just about up. Even though the 3001 weighs a good deal less than the 3021s, it's just lacking in stability, especially when compared with a SLIK or Gitzo carbon fiber model. Carbon fiber is definitely where it's at, especially when lightweight is critical.
  • Acratech Ultimate Ballhead, camera plate
  • Tiffen Polarizer
  • Lowepro Topload Zoom Bag
  • Sigma 28-200 lens - good zoom range, decent quality for the price, a nice all around lens to use.

Film

  • Fuji Velvia 50 slide film - by far the best film to use for landscape photography.
  • Fuji Provia 100 slide film - similar qualities to Velvia, not quite as much color saturation, but very nice when an extra stop of speed is needed.
  • Kodak Elitechrome 200 - a decent film to use when you run out of the good stuff... avaliable at Wal Mart and fairly cheap.
  • AGFA Optima Prestige 100 - a nice print film to use, very nice color saturation compared to standard Kodak print films
